The party heads back to the village to heal up a bit. Seeing that their time is about to come to an end they make one further foray into the catacombs. They meet no resistance until they get to the lower level (where they turned back last time). On of the corridors appears to be a long sealed tomb two of the others appear to go to the same place. A large room with a stone arch in the middle. Most recognize the archway as an extra planar gate.(this would explain the Sheesh). After doing a quick study of the portal both Scala and Estryellya realize that the device is still working. A passage is found leading from the gate room, this room is covered in mirror like crystals and in the middle of each crystal is a small dancing shadow. After fighting one the shadow things the party decides to leave that room for a later time. Having spent some time in the gate room the party explores the other exit. It appears that the well built exit from the room is warded against evil and that would explain the other freshly dug exit. Some evil had been trying to free itself from the cavern. The party blocks up the dug passage and returns to the surface.

On their way back to Jkenna Jun they party encounters a troop of Deseratan soldiers. They introduce themselves as the 20th Deseratan Alt on their way to the town of Mountain Vale (the city the characters were in). The group introduces themselves and when they do the leader of the Sub alt takes Serif aside and tells him he as a message for him. The message is in the form of a Speaker (a person who takes on the traits and mannerisms of the person giving the message). The message is from Jakenna Jun. He says that one of the things he dislikes about being a royal is having to do bad things to his friends. He tells Serif that he is bestowing upon Serif the title of Den Voc (A title that serif had refused a few weeks ago). The message goes on the say that he needs Serif and the party to stay in Mountain Vale in case of invasion by the empire in the west. He also grants Scala the title of Den Van (the female version of serifs title) in the hopes that she will advise him fairly. At the end of the message he tells Estryellia that he will not be marrying anyone soon so she and the rest needn’t travel back to Sylvia’s Rest. They group heads back to Mountain Vale along with a sub alt (100 men). The Sub Alt Leader a dour soldier named Brian Bitter .

Serif goes and talks to the local villagers. They accuse him of coming in with armed men and taking over the village. Despite the parts best arguments.
The village council seems uncooperative. Finally one of the women’s council brings the whole ting to a head. She says,” If your not here to enslave us then if we ask you to leave you will then”. Serrif says that they would. The council then asks Serif and the Alt to leave. Later while Serif and the group are getting ready to go Altman Bitter approaches them and tells them that as a former villager he knows what the leaders of the town want, they want a small bribe. He takes some money from the treasury and comes back later saying that the Alt has been invited to stay in Mountain Vale.
