It’s late in the day Scala and Ulysses (Aki being out this run due to real world sickness) are near the strongpoint wondering about the information they just learned. They had just discovered that until recently the bar near the keep had had another name. In the past week or so it had been renamed “The Sorcerers Foot. This may or may not be some kind of clue. A couple of weeks ago Scala had had her foot removed be an evil minion named Tanda Avan (An albino Manthoothian) The characters aren’t sure if this has had any bearing on their current mission.
Scala and Ulysses made their way back to the Silence at Noon (the bar they were staying at). Part of the way there they noticed that they were being followed. They ducked into an alley and Scala makes them both invisible so they continued back to the bar.
Serif is sitting back in the bar enjoying the peace and quiet of not being pestered by his two newly acquired Sadakadishian concubines (Hij and Tra). Nothing was going on in the bar except a couple of Sand Men (Desert nomads) wearing traditional scarves and hoods. Morgan who has just finished up her afternoon prayers comes into the main room and they wait for Scala and Ulysses to return. The two walk through the bar invisible and then reappear in their quarters. They call for Serif and Morgan to join them so that they can discuss what they have learned. As a whole the party still isn’t interested in rescuing Alyene (Alseen). So they concentrate on the meaning of the bars name. Obviously the only person that would want to taunt them so would be Tanda Avan.
Scala decides that she’s probably nearby so she decides to scry for her. The picture she gets from the spell is that of the bars main room. Scala breaks and runs back into the bars common room just in time to see an albino woman running from the bar, apparently she was disguised as one of the Sand Men. The party follows Scala out into the busy street but they have lost sight of her. In frustration Scala yells several obscenities and then follows with the other characters in tow. They don’t get far when they encounter Hij and Tra on their way back from shopping. Scala asks if they’ve seen a very white woman running down the street. The girls point to the east. Scala begins to head that direction when suddenly the closest wagons open and a sub alt of Deseratan soldiers with their spears advance on the party. Before they can take a defensive stance both Hij and Tra also attack the party from close in, using Sadakadishian martial arts. The party gets no room to breath because Tanda Avan and a priest of Chaldisaya emerge from out of another of the wagons and the battle is joined.
Scala lets forth a spell towards the Manthootian but it is absorbed by a spell of anti magic. The battle unfolds with the Altmen keeping the party away from Tanda who peppers the characters with arrows. As the fight continues both Hij and Tra are driven off while Ulysses ducks into a store to get some time to use a healing potion, he tries to flank the attackers by running around a couple of buildings. The surviving Altmen manage to get Scala separated from the party and form a tight fighting line with Avan at the tip of it. Serif tries to come to Scala's aid by getting around on the right flank but is slowed by the reach of the soldier’s weapons.
In a fit Morgan throws herself at Avan and wrestles her to the ground. As the two women fight the Chaldite priest tries to escape with Tanda Avan by moving them both to the ethereal plane but they are pulled back by Scala’s magic. Once they are dragged back to the prime material (the priest’s anti magic spell lowered) Arc Morgan unleashes a spell that blinds Tanda and greatly weakens the priest. Again the cleric takes himself and Avan to the ethereal plane and this time Scala cannot bring them back. Both sides stagger away from the encounter bloodied but not beaten.
(GM’s note: Scala’s scrying for Tanda and finding her in the middle of setting a trap for the party tipped the balance in the parties favor. Had the trap been finished things would have gone differently).
